The requirements for leadership show: There is a vast amount of literature and a broad spectrum of what a leader must bring to the table in order to be effective and successful. One aspect that we believe is essential for success in leadership is self-reflection. What is meant by this? Critically examining one's own effectiveness and reviewing what works well about one's own behavior in dealing with oneself and others -and where there may be a need for change.
Leadership by pattern?
As a manager, you always have to deal with people -almost regardless of the level at which you work and the area in which you operate. Our own image of people, as well as that of others, determines how we appear and how we interact with our environment. In leadership consulting, it often becomes apparent that thereare managers who walk through the world with a far too simple view of people. As a result, they tend to classify employees into patterns or categories such as A, B, C and D types. This undermines individual and effective leadership behavior, because thesemanagers lead according to patterns A, B, C and D.
But please not too easy!
Albert Einstein once said, "Make things as simple as possible, but not too simple." If we relate this to the applicability of personality tools in leadership, it means that oversimplified personality images or interpretations are not appropriate -may even become dangerous. Therefore, a leader is not spared from dealing with the issue of complexity, recognizing one's own individuality and getting to know the effects of one's own behavior on employees. This makes it possible to lead people in a way that corresponds to what appeals to and promotes them personally and individually. This does not imply having to become a psychologist.
Lead personally and individually
The Reiss Motivation Profile®is an essential tool in getting to know oneself and one's own effectiveness as a leader. Also with regard to which personality elements enable which preferred leadership styles or applications in dealing with others. And to be able to recognize beyond that: What works how? Am I reaching limits with my behavior? Which other behaviors can be called up on the basis of my individual personality in order to develop greater effectiveness and efficiency here?
